International students (students studying on a Student Visa) are bound by the terms and conditions of their student visa which is subject to a number of conditions which you must comply with. Breaching a visa condition may result in the cancellation of your visa. You may view these visa conditions at the DIAC website at: www.immi.gov.au
1. Course enrolment, attendance and progress 1.1) You must remain enrolled in a registered full time course at all times 1.2) You must maintain satisfactory attendance for each study period (Semester) in your course as required by the School. 1.3) You must make satisfactory course progress for each study period (Semester)
It is a condition of your student visa that the School must advise DIAC if your attendance or course progress is not satisfactory. DIAC advises that your education provider will define the term “satisfactory”.
The term “Satisfactory” is defined by the School as:- i) 80% or higher attendance ii) Able to meet course requirements in any one semester of study
Important Note: Satisfactory Attendance Commencing 27 April 2009, the school will change form course progress being the primary method of monitoring and reporting to course attendance becoming the primary method of monitoring and reporting students.
International Students who breach the Attendance Rule will be reported to the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) as failing to meet their Student Visa requirements.
2. Working While Studying If you were granted a Student Visa before 26 April 2008 and have not yet applied for Permission to Work, you and your family members may only apply for Permission to Work after you have started your course in Australia. Note: If you were granted a Student Visa on or after 26 April 2008, you and your dependent family members will already have Permission to Work automatically included with your visa.

Under no circumstances is work to take precedence over your school time table. You are not permitted to be absent from your studies in order to work.
3. Changing Courses If you want to change to a new course at the Australian School of Tourism and Hotel Management within the same level qualification, you do not need to apply for a new student visa unless your current visa is about to expire. If your new course is with a different education provider, refer to the information below about changing education providers and the to the section Transfer Between Education Providers.
4. Changing Level of Qualification In most cases if you want to change your level of qualification, you will need to apply for a new student visa because your visa subclass will change.
5. Changing Education Provider 5.1) If you are intending to change education provider you should speak to the Student Services Department for more information. In most circumstances the new education provider will be restricted from enrolling you if you have not completed six (6) months of your principal course of study (the course for which your Student Visa was granted). 5.2) If you want to change provider before completing the first six (6) months of your main course of study you must obtain written permission from the Australian School of Tourism and Hotel Management. 5.3) In order to change your course provider you must complete a “Deferral, Suspension, Cancellation Form” and provide reasons and all supporting evidence for your request. You are also required to provide a valid Letter of Offer from your proposed new course provider with this form. If you have not completed the first six (6) months of your main course, you must also submit a Request for la Letter of Release form. The forms must be handed to Student Services who will consider your request and respond to your request in writing. Please note that you must continue to attend your course until you have been provided a Letter of Release and a Confirmation of Course Cancellation Letter from the school. 5.4) If you change your education provider and you want to change your level of qualification, you will need to apply for a new student visa because your visa subclass will change.
6. Health Insurance You must maintain health insurance for you and your family members while in Australia. Health insurance can be provided by obtaining Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) which provides medical and hospital insurance.
7. Students Under 18 Years of Age If you are under 18 years of age you must have written approval to change your accommodation, support and general welfare arrangements. If your parents approved your accommodation, support and general welfare arrangements, you must have your parent's written approval to change these arrangements. If your education provider approved your accommodation, support and general welfare arrangements, you must have the education provider's written approval provider to change these arrangements.
8. Providing your Australian home address You must advise your education provider of your Australian home address within seven days of arriving in Australia. If you change your address during your stay in Australia, you must advise your education provider within seven days. Note: Your education provider needs your home address so they can contact you if you do not satisfy the requirements of your course. If they cannot contact you, this could result in your student visa being cancelled.
9. Financial Capacity You must maintain enough money to pay for travel, tuition and living expenses for yourself, your spouse and your dependent children for the duration of your stay in Australia.
