STUDENT SERVICES AND REGULATIONS A - Z

Attendance

1. Attendance
To be eligible for the award of any of the Australian School of Tourism and Hotel Management qualifications attendance for all students is required to be no less than 80% of the course duration. Part-time employment and personal appointments should be arranged outside of your class timetable so that your attendance is not affected. All students are expected to explain absenteeism from classes satisfactorily when this occurs.

Important Note for International Students
Please Note that attendance is the chosen primary method of monitoring International Students studying on a Student Visa and that a breach of attendance without valid reasons will result in you being reported to the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC).

Attendance is a condition of your Student Visa that you must maintain a minimum attendance of 80% at all times. In the event of an illness or any other extenuating circumstance you will be required to provide valid reasons supported by evidence for each period of absence. For example, a medical certificate must be supplied for every period of absence related to illness. (Please note that only medical certificates from certified medical practitioners will be accepted).

International students who breach the attendance requirements will be issued with a Notice of Intention to Report requiring a written explanation for their continued absenteeism. Where a student is not able to satisfactorily provide acceptable written reasons for their absenteeism their case will be reported to the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC). This breach usually results in a Visa cancellation.

Should you have any queries related to Attendance you must address these immediately with our Student Services Department as attendance in breach of the Student Visa requirements will have serious effects on your Student Visa.

2. Punctuality
All students must arrive for class at least ten (10) minutes before the session commences. It is also important that students return to class promptly after breaks. Students who are late to class will not be permitted to enter so as not to disrupt the lecture or task in progress.

Latecomers will be required to wait until the next break and can only enter the session when it recommences. This will result in you being marked absent for the missed lesson and will affect your overall attendance.

During all assessments, students must arrive and be ready to begin at least 10 minutes prior to the scheduled commencement time. Latecomers will not be permitted entry to the assessment and will need to book a re-assessment.

Important Note: Overseas Students studying on a Student Visa must meet course attendance and punctuality rule requirements as this rule has serious implications for their Student Visa.
